Mary Jahnel a life-long resident of Washington County died last Friday, March 22 at the age of 96.

Mary Schmidt was born December 3, 1877, at Fort Calhoun to Peter and Christine Schmidt. On January 6, 1904, she was united in marriage to Fritz Jahnel. Since the death of her husband in 1967 Mrs. Jahnel has resided at the Crowell Home.

Survivors are four sons, Harry of Oakland, Walter of Tekamah, Ray and Robert both of Blair, and one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Christiansen of Kennard, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A son, Alfred died in infancy.

Services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Fort Calhoun Monday, March 25. Interment was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Pallbearers were Arnold Schmidt, Jack Rathjen, Tage Christensen, Ivan Andersen, Frank Henricksen and Kenneth Jahnel.

Note: Mary was buried in Section B Block 116 grave 2 in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
