Former Calhoun Man Died In Calif.

Word has been received in Ft. Calhoun that Clark Pettingill, a former resident there, died in Seal Beach, California on November 28th. He is survived by his wife, who was Gertrude Leach of Blair; his daughter, Mrs. Ruth Midby, and two granddaughters, Laurie and Ann, and by a sister, Katherine Pettingill Reynolds of Oakland, Calif.

Clark was the son of Dr. Somers Pettingill, who began his long practice in Fort Calhoun in the 1870’s, and of Grace Clark, who family came to Fort Calhoun in the 1850’s.

Clark was graduated from the Fort Calhoun High School in 1900. For many years he held a responsible supervisory position with a power company in the Los Angeles area. After his retirement Clark experimented with propagation of plants and developed a new apple which was registered as the Pettingill apple and sold to the Armstrong Nurseries of California. A specimen of this tree has been planted at the Presbyterian manse, the old Pettingill place in Fort Calhoun.
