HEAR OF DEATH OF DR. PETTINGILL

Former Physician At Calhoun Dead At Age Of Seventy-Six

Mrs. C.O. Timpe of Fontanelle received word last week of the death of her brother, Dr. Somers Pettingill formerly a physician at Fort Calhoun, at the home of his son Clark Pettingill, in Seal Beach, California, on Tuesday morning, November 15th. Dr. Pettingill’s death, at the age of 76, followed an illness of a year, the result of a stroke of apoplexy in 1931.

Dr. Pettingill was born in Phippsburg, Maine, on March 8, 1856. He came west with the family in 1869 and settled in Washington county where he resided continuously until about 12 years ago, when he moved to California. Mrs. Pettingill died there about nine years ago.

After a normal school education received in this county, Dr. Pettingill completed a medical course at the Iowa City school, which gave him a start for his life vocation as a family doctor, to which profession he gave approximately 40 years of his life in the Fort Calhoun vicinity.

Dr, Pettingill’s immediate surviving relatives are his son, Clark Pettingill of Seal Beach, and a daughter, Mrs. Roy Reynolds of Claremont, California. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Harry Kemp of Messex, Colorado, and Mrs. Timpe of Fontanelle.
