Pettit, Luther Clayton

Once more with hearts, touched and tendered, we are gathered here to begin the sad rites of Christian burial; and give expression of sincere and profound sympathy, because the grim, silent reaper has plucked a sweet bud from our midst and left a vacant spot in another home.

Luther Clayton Pettit came to bless the hearts and home of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Pettit March 26, 1897, and after a brief illness, baffling the best medical skill and hospital treatment borne with noble fortitude, in the Presbyterian hospital, Omaha, Tuesday morning, January 5, 1909, went home to be with Jesus. Aged 11 years, 9 months and 10 days.

Clayton was a noble hearted, manly boy, chum, friend and beloved playmate with every other boy in town and school. Of cheerful, sunny disposition, obedient to his parents, striving always to be helpful about the house, where for many long days his presence will be sadly missed as well as in our schools and about our streets, now he is gone; gone but his memory will be lovingly cherished for on many hearts in kind acts he engraved his name.

To the bereaved family father, mother, sisters and brothers, we extend our profoundest sympathy in this hour of sore trial and pray the Heavenly Father may around them cast the everlasting arms of soothing and sustaining grace. Weep not for those precious gifts of God we shall come to find them all again in that happy day when tears forever are wiped away.

Miss VanDeusen's room at school remembered their little pupil and playmate with a beautiful floral tribute of their love, while sympathizing friends also sent remembrances of their esteem for sturdy, cheerful, little "Mud" as he was playfully called by his associates. The family have the sincerest sympathies of the entire community in their loss of so bright a member of the family.
