Mr. Pettit Funeral Set

Kennard Man, 80, Died Tuesday; Funeral Is Being Held Today

Sylvester Pettit, resident of the Kennard vicinity for approximately half a century, died at his home in Kennard early Tuesday morning after an illness of nine weeks. He would have been 81 years old next Monday.

Funeral services, arrangements in charge of the Campbell mortuary, are being held at 2 p.m. today at the Pettit home, followed at 2:30 o’clock by rites at the Kennard Methodist church. The Rev. David Simpson of Arlington will officiate, and burial will be in Kennard cemetery.

Mr. Pettit was born in New York state March 15, 1862, and moved to Illinois as a young man, later coming to Nebraska. He was married to Ida Widener and they farmed in the Hillside neighborhood near Kennard a number of years, moving into Kennard in 1904. For a number of years Mr. Pettit was active with the stock-buying firm of Burgess & Neal in and about Kennard.

Mr. Pettit is survived by his wife, Ida; four sons, R.L. of Omaha, S.P. of Columbus, Ohio, Lawrence of St. Paul, Nebraska and George of Council Bluffs; and four daughters, Mrs. Paul Noel (Lilly) of Tekamah, Mrs. Frank Pettit (Hertha) of Benkelman, Nebraska, Mrs. Henry Lautrup (Ida) and Mrs. Charles Bates (Gertrude), both of Kennard.

There are 20 grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Asa Johnson and Mrs. Clarence Matthieson, both of Benkelman, and two brothers, Ernest of Ravana, Arkansas, and Marvin of Washington state.

Sylvester Petit Rites Thursday

Sylvester Petit of Kennard passed away Tuesday of complications due to old age. Had he lived until March 15th, he would have been 81 years of age.

Deceased was born in New York and came to Nebraska at an early age. Most of his life had been spent around Kennard.

Of eleven children, eight survive him. They are Robert L. of Omaha; Sylvester T. of Columbus, Ohio; George L. of Council Bluffs; Lawrence of St. Paul, Nebraska; Mrs. Gertrude N. Bates and Mrs. Ida Lautrup of Kennard; Mrs. Lillie Noel of Tekamah, and Hertha Petit of Benkelman, Nebraska. Besides these he leaves 20 grandchildren and two brothers and two sisters to mourn him.

The funeral services are being held this afternoon from the Methodist Church in Kennard with Rev. David Simpson officiating and interment will be made in the Kennard cemetery.
