Eleanor Neale Shaner, 98

Eleanor Neale Shaner, 98, of Los Gatos, Calif., died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Los Gatos.

A graveside service in Fort Calhoun will be Thursday, May 8, 2014.

Eleanor Pauline Neale was born on a farm east of Fort Calhoun May 8, 1915, to George and Pauline Neale. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Fort Calhoun High School and the University of Nebraska. After graduation, she went to work for Eastman Kodak where she met Vaughn Shaner. They were married in Fort Calhoun in 1938 and moved to North Hollywood, Calif., where Vaughn continued his career with Kodak.

They raised three children: Neale, Carl and Susan. Mrs. Shaner was active in the parent-teacher association and volunteer work in the community. In 1969, they moved to Burlingame, Calif., where she was active in community associations. Mr. Shaner died in 1988.

Mrs. Shaner continued her community involvement until she moved to Las Gatos, Calif., in 2005.

She is survived by three children: Neale and wife Laura Shaner of Fort Calhoun, Carl Shaner of Grayling Mich., and Susan and husband Brian Kincaid of Aptos, Calif.; three grandchildren: Penelope and husband Sean Gaffney of Boise, Idaho, David and wife Julie Shaner of Omaha and Jeff and wife Kelli Shaner of Fort Calhoun; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vaughn.
