Walter R. Pfeiffer, 86

Walter R. Pfeiffer, 86, of Arlington, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at the A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 25, at the Arlington Community Church, U.C.C., in Arlington, with the Rev. Shirley Schmidt officiating. Interment will be in the Arlington Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to services.

Walter R. “Walt” Pfeiffer was born March 23, 1917, in rural Arlington to Henry and Ella (Menking) Pfeiffer. He grew up and lived in the Arlington area his entire life. He was a 1934 graduate of Arlington High School.

He operated a dairy farm until his retirement, then continued helping on the family farm until in his 80s.

Mr. Pfeiffer was a member of the Arlington Community Church, U.C.C.; was a life member of Hiram Lodge No. 52, A.F. & A.M. of Arlington; was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 200 of Fremont; and was active in Boy Scout programs in Arlington for many years.

On Nov. 12, 1939, he married Mern Manzel at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. She died in 1971. Mr. Pfeiffer married Bonnie Weiche in 1973, she survives her husband.

In addition, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Maggie Pfeiffer of Arlington; two sisters, Dora Bradley of Wichita, Kan. and Margaret Rhea of Fort Morgan, Colo.; four grandchildren; and a special friend, Bonnie Weiche of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mern; three brothers, Raymond, Herman and Clarence Pfeiffer; three sisters, Catherine Dalrymple, Ruth Pfeiffer and Helen Heuerman.

Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Community Church or the Boy Scouts of America.
