Blair native William E. Pfeiffer, 82, of Augusta, Ga., died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, in Augusta.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair.

William E. Pfeiffer was born April 28, 1925, in Blair to Edward and Dora (Struve) Pfeiffer. He graduated from High School in 1942. After graduation, he worked in Blair for Fairway Transfer and the Blair Dairy for a few years.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1944, serving in Europe and in the United States before being discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant.

In late 1946, he moved to Augusta. In 1947, he married Betty Strickland. She died in 1963. In late 1963, while visiting in Blair, he met up with an old friend and schoolmate, Libby Robinson, and they married in 1965. They moved back to Georgia where Mr. Pfeiffer worked. He was an over-the-road truck driver for R-C Motor Lines and Consolidated Freightways for 35 years. He drove more than 3 million miles and retired in 1966.

He was an avid bowler and served on the Board of Directors of the Augusta Bowling Association and was a member of the Augusta Bowling Hall of Fame.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Steve Hurt of Niles, Mich., and Lynn and Brad Clear of South Bend, Ind.; son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Fran Pfeiffer III of Snellville, Ga., Step-daughter and husband, Jane and Nick Amato of Charlotte, N.C.; step-son and wife, Robert and Beth Farrens, also of Snellville, sisters, Helen Pfeiffer and Louise Pfeiffer, both of Blair; brother, Henry Pfeiffer, also of Blair; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bud and Janice Robinson of Blair.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Elizabeth and a brother, John.
