SARAH L. DUTTON, 88

Sarah L. Dutton, 88, of Imperial, died Aug. 27, 2002, at the Imperial Manor in Imperial.

Funeral services were Aug. 31, at the United Methodist Church in Imperial. All seven of Mrs. Dutton’s grandsons served as pallbearers.

Sarah L. Dutton was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Victoria Springs to John and Ethel Bowley. She graduated from Merna High School.

In 1934, she married Renold E. Dutton. She was a partner with her husband in various businesses in Anselmo and Imperial.

She lived in Anselmo until 1957, when they moved to Imperial. Except for a short period of time when Mrs. Dutton was a resident of Crowell Memorial Home in Blair, she spent the rest of her life in Imperial.

Along with raising four children, she was also an in-house barber, beauty operator and seamstress for most of the children in town. She loved to sew and read and enjoyed writing very much.

Prior to moving to Imperial, she was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Methodist Church. After moving to Imperial, she was involved in the Methodist Women’s Club, Imperial Senior Citizens Club, and Extension Club.

She is survived by her daughters and a son-in-law, Marlene and Howard Raymond of Madison, Ala.; and Carol McAlhaney of Blair; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Marilyn Dutton of Loveland, Colo.; and Douglas and Janice Dutton of Imperial; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two half-sisters, Ruth Bolen and Ruby Chrisp; and one half-brother, John Bowley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Renold, in 1991; two sisters, and two half-sisters.
