ELIZABETH (SACK) DYSON SERVICES JANUARY 8, TODAY

Mrs. Lester Dyson passed away Monday morning January 5th at the Blair Community Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be held at the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Thursday, January 8th. The Rev. Robert D. Bee will officiate at the 2 o’clock service. Burial will be in the Memorial Cemetery at Lyons, Nebraska. The Campbell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dyson (Elizabeth) was born May 8th, 1900 to Mr. and Mrs. William H. Gift, who were pioneers of Burt County. Her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Libbey were among the first settlers in the Lyons Community in 1867.

She graduated from the Lyons High School in 1918 and from the University of Nebraska in 1922. She also attended Columbia University in New York and a college in Seattle, Washington. Her teaching career started in Blackfoot, Idaho and before retiring in 1968, she was affiliated with the Commercial Department of the Blair City Schools for thirty years. During World War II she was employed by Civil Service at Washington, D.C. and Miami, Florida.

She was married December 25, 1927 to Mr. Lindell Sack. They were the parents of a son, Richard Sack, now of Dover, Delaware. On February 6, 1969 she was married to J. Lester Dyson of Lyons. They made their home in Blair.

Mrs. Dyson was a long-time member of the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Blair and served as the Church Treasurer for several years. She was also active in the Ladies of St. Mary; was a Regent of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution); a member of the A.A.U.W. (American Association of University Women); Monday Afternoon Club; and a Lyon’s Birthday Club. At one time she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and in several foreign countries.

Survivors besides her husband, Mr. Dyson, are her son, Richard Sack, and three grandchildren, David and Philip Sack of Dover and Mrs. Kenneth Mulvick (Lynn) of Baltimore. Also her step-children, Mrs. Harriett (Dyson) Smith and Donald Dyson of Lyons and three step-grandchildren, Scott and Lee Smith and John Dyson of Lyons.

Pallbearers will be Fritz Wolff and Dale Stricklett of Blair, Don Dyson, Marlin Smith, John Larson of Lyons, and Gordon Baker of Tekamah.
