Father Of Blair Pastor Died Here Saturday, May 19

Rubie Goodwin Phelps, father of the Rev. Ray Phelps, pastor of the First Christian Church of Blair, died last Saturday, May 19th at the Good Shepherd Home. He was 82 years of age and prior to his last illness he had made his home with his son and family at 1946 South street.

He was born in Omaha August 31, 1890, spent part of his early childhood at Schuyler, Nebraska and then returned to Omaha to make his home.

He was associated with the meat packing industry and for many years he was a meat salesman to stores in this area and ranging as far east as Des Moines. He worked for a brief period with Armour and Co. and then was associated with Swift and Co. for 30 years.

Mr. Phelps is survived by two sons, The Rev. Ray Phelps of Blair and Richard Phelps of Omaha. A sister resides at Bryte, California. There are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His wife, Henrietta, preceded him in death in 1963.

Memorial services were conducted Tuesday from the Kremer Funeral Home in Benson. Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Plattsmouth.
