Phillips, Charles E.

DIED---At his residence in Blair, Neb., on Tuesday, February 4th, 1890, Charles E. Phillips, in the 53rd year of his age.

Mr. Phillips, at the age of twenty-five, on the 18th day of September, 1861, enlisted as a private of company K, 12th regiment Iowa infantry, and in the April following fought in the battle of Shiloh, and served the term of his enlistment. For many years he has resided in Washington county, Nebraska, in the vicinity of Blair or in the town, and although physically weak, has been able to maintain himself and family. He has for years been entitled to a pension, but has refused to make the application for some reason best known to himself. He has been for a long time a faithful and consistent member of the Baptist church, being one of the members whose presence could always be relied on if bodily ability to attend. He leaves a wife and several small children to mourn his loss.

He was born in the state of Indiana, and was buried at Blair by John A. Dix Post G.A.R. on Thursday afternoon.
