Private Services Are Held For Fern McGavren

Private family services were held Friday, February 6, at the First Congregational Church, Fremont, for Mrs. Fern McGavren, 86, of Route 1, Nickerson, who died Wednesday, February 4, 1981, at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County annex.

Rev. Herbert G. Kelly conducted the services. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery.

Fern McGavren was born Fern Owens on July 26, 1894, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. She lived there until marrying Ewart O. McGavren. They lived in several places, including Sioux City and Omaha. Following Mr. McGavren’s death in 1954, she moved to Nickerson, where she has lived for 26 years.

She was a member of First Congregational Church UCC of Fremont, Arbor Vitae Chapter 92, Order of the Eastern Star of Fremont and was a past matron of the Eastern Star Chapter in Missouri Valley.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alan (Nellie) Mulliken, Nickerson; and Mrs. O. C. (Mary Grace) Schroeder, Richland, Washington; one son, Don E. McGavren, of Atlanta, Georgia, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established to the First Congregational Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements for the services.
