Jeffrey Allen Nannen, 55, of Omaha, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at his home in Omaha.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service. Cremation will follow services.

Jeffrey Allen Nannen was born Sept. 21, 1958, in Syracuse, to Dickie and Sherry (Engelbrecht) Nannen.

He grew up in Syracuse, where he was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, and graduated as a member of the class of 1976. While attending school in Syracuse, he was an All-State basketball player and won the gold medal in the high jump at the Nebraska State Track Meet.

After high school, he attended South Dakota University on a basketball scholarship, where he attained All-American honors and held the school scoring title for more than 20 years.

After graduating from college, he played professional basketball overseas in England, Germany, Australia and then in Sweden for several years.

After finishing his basketball career, he taught elementary physical education in the Westside school district for more than 20 years.

Mr. Nannen loved sports, especially basketball and golf and bicycling. He loved to travel. Most years, he would travel to Texas in the spring and Europe in the summer to visit his many friends.

He is survived by his parents, Dick and Sherry Nannen of Blair; sister Marcia (Bob) Haynes of Doniphan; brother David (Karin) Nannen of Blair; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
