H. C. Cashman, a prominent citizen of Kennard, and also well known here in Blair, died of brain fever last Friday afternoon after an illness of but three days’ duration. He carried his mail on route No 1 Tuesday, but complained of a headache Wednesday so that a substitute had to go out. Brain fever developed rapidly, and death ensued at 3 o’clock Friday afternoon. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock under Masonic auspices, Grand Custodian French having charge of the service. Interment was made in the Kennard cemetery. Mr. Cashman was born at Union Star, Ky. Jan. 30, 1848, and was married in that state to Miss Eliza French in Sept., 1873. Four children were born to them, Everett, Leona, now Mrs. Chris Nelson, Mae, now Mrs. Burr Jones and Carlotta. He was Master of John S. Bowen lodge and had but one more meeting before his successor, John Blaco, took the chair. He was also a member of the Modern Woodman and Woodman of the World lodges and carried $2,000 insurance in the former and $1,000 in the latter order. He had been mail carrier on route No. 1 since July 1st, 1903 and will be succeeded by his son, Everett, who was his substitute.

KENNARD LOSES OLD CITIZEN

H. C. Cashman, a resident of the Kennard neighborhood since 1882, died at the home in Kennard last Friday, death being caused from an attack of brain fever.

Mr. Cashman complained of feeling ill a week ago Saturday, but it was not until the following Tuesday that he gave up his job as a rural carrier. He became unconscious Wednesday and passed away Friday.

The funeral services were held Sunday and were conducted by the Masonic Lodge, Grand Custodian French, of Kearney, being in charge. Deceased was born in Kentucky, January 30, 1848, and was married to Elizabeth French in September of 1873. Besides a wife he leaves one son and three daughters. Besides being an honored member of the Masonic Lodge of Kennard, he was a member of the M. W. A. and W. O. W. Lodges, carrying $2,000 insurance in the former and $1,000 in the later.
