ELWOOD “DOC” DORTCH

Elwood “Doc” Dortch, 95, died on Aug. 21, 1988 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Mr. Dortch was born on Nov. 29, 1892 in Greenup County, Kentucky. Elwood grew up in Kentucky and Missouri. He moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado and in 1922 became an area resident when he moved to Omaha. In 1931 he was united in marriage to Betty B. Simmonds of Omaha.

Elwood Dortch was employed at the Ford Motor Company in Omaha and at Robert’s Dairy in Omaha. He also operated a restaurant in Arlington for a number of years. Mr. Dortch was a member of the Arlington Community Church.

Elwood Dortch was preceded in death by his parents, James and Florence (Callahan) Dortch; brothers, Walter, John, Finley, Tice and Clyde; and one sister, Grace Willsey.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, Jerry Dortch of Arlington; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Linda) Scheer of Fremont; a brother, Ted Dortch of Fort Morgan, Co.; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Mae) Waggener of Longmont, Co.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services for Elwood “Doc” Dortch were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at the Arlington Community Church. The Rev. Norman c. Pavey of Fremont officiated. Memorials may be established at the church. Interment will be in the Arlington Cemetery and funeral arrangements have been handled by Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home of Arlington. Pallbearers will be Wayne, Robert, James and Raymond Simmonds, Harry Flaitz and Randy Short.
