NANCY LOUISE DOWNING, 69

Nancy Louise Downing, 69, of Arlington died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, of heart failure at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln.

Services were 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at the First Presbyterian Church in Superior. Pastor Mark Diehl officiated the service. Burial was in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln.

Nancy Louise Downing was born Oct. 30, 1929, to Harlan and Eleanor Jensen in Arlington. She graduated valedictorian from Fremont High School in 1947 and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln; Alpha Omicron Pi, Tassels.

She married David B. Downing on Aug. 17, 1951, in Fremont.

After traveling with the military for three and a half years, the couple moved to Superior in 1959, where she was active in community affairs.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, president of the Parent Teacher Association and also PEO. She was a teacher’s aide in the special education program at the Superior Public Schools in the 1960s.

She was an avid bridge player.

Mrs. Downing was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1970 and was a 10-year breast cancer survivor.

She is survived by her husband, David B. Downing of Superior; three sons and daughter-in-laws, David and Candy Downing, Jr. of Lincoln; Tim and Pam Downing of Yankton, S.D.; and Jeff and Diane Downing of Lincoln; daughter and son-in –law, Brooke and John Lehman of Lincoln; mother, Eleanor Jensen of Lincoln; two sisters, Patricia Marvin of Lincoln and Genene Lewis of Port Angeles, Wash.; two brothers, Chuck Jensen of Omaha and Alan Jensen of Omaha; grandchildren, Maggie, Hannah, Kelsey, Spencer and Hudson; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harlan Jensen.

Memorials are suggested to Chapter of Multiple Sclerosis Society, Omaha.

Williams Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of arrangements.
