Samuel McGoveran, 75

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, at the American Legion Building in Herman for Samuel “Bud” McGoveran, 75. He died Dec. 17, 2009, at his residence on Foggy Mountain near Taneyville, Mo. Interment was Jan. 22, 2010, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Mo.

Samuel McGoveran was born March 30, 1934, in Witts Spring, Ark., to Dexter Clark and Sarah Malinda (Carroll) McGoveran. He attended school in Witts Spring and graduated in 1951. He moved to St. Louis, Mo., and worked for McWade-Norris until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Dec. 1, 1954.

While stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, he met Karen Faye Platt. They were married April 19, 1958, at Lake Manawa, Iowa.

Mr. McGoveran was honorably discharged from the Air Force Dec. 31, 1958.

The couple made their home in the Omaha area for many years. Mr. McGoveran had his own automotive upholstery business for a few years and then worked for Omaha Transit, driving a city bus. In 1962, he became a driver for Greyhound Bus Lines. He retired from Greyhound in 1989 after 25 years of service.

The McGoverans moved top Taneyville, in 2001.

Memberships included the American Legion and Ozark Trails Studebaker Driving Club. He liked to hunt deer and turkey and enjoyed camping with family, trail riding and rodeos. He shared many good stories around a campfire.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, of Taneyville; a son, Mark McGoveran of Blair; daughters, Lorna of Blair and Gwen of Uehling; two grandchildren; a sister, Debra Nations of Summerfield, Fla.; brothers, Jack McGoveran of Branson West, Mo., and Carroll McGoveran of Eureka, Calif.; three sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
