Services for Carleton Draper, 80 of Red Oak, who died January 21, 1995 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after an extended illness are 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 24 at the First Congregational Church in Red Oak. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Carleton Thomas Draper was born December 28, 1914 in Red Oak, Iowa to Harry and Myrtle Draper. He was raised in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1932.

He attended Red Oak Junior College and Parsons College before attending Louisiana State University on a baseball scholarship. He graduated from LSU in 1941.

He entered the United States Marine Corps during World War II. From 1941 to 1945 he served in the South Pacific.

He married Ruth Ann Wood of Red Oak on July 12, 1946. They purchased and operated the Culligan Soft Water dealership in Red Oak, moving to Blair in 1955 to operate the soft water business. They then returned to Red Oak in April of 1965.

He was the first branch manager of the Houghton State Bank Plaza office, which opened in 1974. He retired from the banking business in November of 1981.

He was a member of, and a former elder and trustee of First Congregational Church of Red Oak. He was a former Boy Scout leader, a 50-year member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge, a member of the Lorraine Post No. 67, American Legion of Red Oak and the Veterans of Guadlcanal (sp)

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Harry Wood Draper in infancy and Thomas Randall Draper in 1968 and a sister, Virginia Draper Larson.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Anne of Red Oak and two nieces, Carolyn Mills of Sante, California and Mary Jane Proffer of Seattle, Washington.

Memorials are suggested to the Thomas Randall Draper Scholarship Fund.

Nelson-Boylan Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
