Robert A. Falk, 79

Area Leader was a true gentleman

Robert A. Falk was a successful investment banker, a prominent community leader and an active volunteer. But to his wife he also was a “neat, neat person.”

“He was what you would call a gentleman. He truly was,” said Janice Mossman Falk.

Robert Falk, 79, of Fort Calhoun, Neb., died Thursday.

Falk was born on Oct. 23, 1934, in Omaha, and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He joined the Army soon after graduation and achieved the rank of captain.

Falk lived in New York City for four years, but he didn’t want to raise a family there, Janice Falk said, so he moved back to Omaha.

Falk married Katharine Ann Shearer in 1964. She died of cancer in 1988, and four years later he married Janice Mossman.

He worked in the investment sector for 50 years and retired as a senior investment banker for RBC Wealth Management.

Falk was active in Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church. His community volunteerism included serving as director of the Omaha Community Foundation and as president of the board of directors at Immanuel Medical Center.

In recognition of the family’s community involvement, his youngest daughter, Kristine, was named queen of Ak-Sar-Ben in 2001.

“He was such an honest person,” Janice Falk said. “I never knew anything (about him) that would be bad or questionable. I was proud to be his wife.”

Robert’s children remember him for his ability to make everyone feel special, and the dry wit of his story-telling.

Other survivors include children Carolyn Sund of Wayzata, Minn., Nancy Ayoub of Omaha, Carl Falk of Fort Calhoun and Kristine Beverly of Oceanside, Calif; sisters Virginia Olson of Destin, Fla., and Suzanne Ahlstand of Wichita, Kan.; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, 2650 Farnam St.
