Aldon E. Sederberg, 77

Aldon E. Sederberg, 77, of Beatrice, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 25, 1999, in Greensboro, N.C.

Services were Thursday, April 29, at the Centenary United Methodist Church. The Rev. Nancy Kaye-Skinner officiated.

Burial was in the Evergreen Home Cemetery.

Aldon E. Sederberg was born Dec. 6, 1921, to Aaron and Selma (England) Sederberg in Turin, Iowa.

He graduated from the Kiron, Iowa High School in 1939 and from Wayne State College in Wayne in 1943.

On Oct. 15, 1943, he married Marjorie Harrison in Prince Frederick, Md.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, receiving a commission as Ensign from the Northwestern University Midshipman School in Chicago.

For three years he served as a gunnery officer on an L.S.T. in the European Theatre of Operations and was on one of the first “waves” to land on Omaha Beach on D-Day.

After leaving the service, he worked at Dempster Industries in Worthington, Minn.

He moved to Beatrice in 1953 where he eventually joined Tote Systems. Upon his retirement, he purchased Uhl's Sporting Goods, which is currently owned by his son, David.

He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice and served as a trustee of the church.

He also served on the Beatrice School Board, United Way Board, Beatrice Chamber of Commerce and was a member of Bitting-Norman Post 27 of the American Legion, Geddes-Thober Post 1077 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and F.O.E. Aerie 531, all of Beatrice.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was a fan of the University of Nebraska’s athletic programs.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Beatrice; daughter, Carol Fanoele and her husband, Gary, of Blair; two sons, Jim Sederberg and his wife, Jean, of Denver, Colo., and David Sederberg and his wife, Beth, of Beatrice; seven grandsons and five granddaughters; and two nephews, John and Richard Clauson of Port Orchard, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; an infant granddaughter; and two sisters, Ruth Sederberg and Doris Clauson.

Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice was in charge of arrangements.
