Mrs. Wm. Seltz Died Last Sunday

Mrs. William Seltz, a long-time resident of the DeSoto area, died at her home at DeSoto last Sunday. She was 73 years of age.

Mrs. Seltz was born January 19, 1893 in Douglas County but had spent most of her life in the Ft. Calhoun and DeSoto areas. Her husband was a farmer. He preceded her in death, December 29, 1962.

She is survived by two sons, Charles and William, and by two daughters, Marjory and Evelyn, all of whom live at home at DeSoto.

Two sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Anna Temperley, of Huron, South Dakota and Mrs. Ollie Jones, of Emerson, Nebraska.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in Blair, with the Rev. Richard P. Davison conducting the service. Burial under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home was made in the Blair cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gifford Nelsen, Milo V. Jepperson, Waldo Kruse, Louis Sully, William Hineline and William Cobs.

MRS. C. SELTZ IS BURIED SATURDAY

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD IN BLAIR FOR PIONEER DE SOTO WOMAN

Funeral Services for Mrs. Marie Seltz of DeSoto, who died last Thursday morning in an Omaha hospital, were held Saturday afternoon from the Bendorf Funeral Home here. Mrs. Seltz was 89 years old.

She was born in Belle Fourche, France, February 8, 1844, as Marie Paros, and came to Washington county with her parents at the age of ten, settling in DeSoto, then a thriving city of some 2,000 inhabitants.

In 1861 she was married to Charles Seltz, a pioneer merchant of DeSoto, who died in 1905. Eight children were born to them, three of whom, Edward, George, and Charles Jr., preceded the mother in death. Left to mourn her demise are three daughters, Mrs. Lee Smith, Mrs. Nettie Thoelecke, and Minnie; two sons, Harry and Will; a nephew, Ed Natter, whom she raised in her home; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Grandma Seltz, as she was familiarly called, was one of the true pioneers of the county. She witnessed the transformation of Nebraska from a rolling prairie inhabited by roving Indians to its present civilized state, with prosperous cities and improved farms.

For the past ten years she had lived with her daughter, Mrs. Viccie Smith, and Mrs. Nettie Thoelecke.
