Robert John Duden, 71, of Blair, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at his home. Services were Monday, July 19, 1999, at First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Robert John Duden was born Oct. 15, 1927, to Charles and Mildred (Vollmers) Duden in Red Wing, Minn. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1945.

On July 26, 1945, he entered the Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill.

He was discharged on Aug. 2, 1946, but was recalled into military service during the Korean conflict on Oct. 17, 1950 and served aboard the battleship USS New Jersey. He was discharged on Jan. 10, 1952.

On Aug. 15, 1948, he married Elaine Brown in Red Wing, Minn.

He began banking for the First National Bank in Red Wing, Minn. and in 1956 became an assistant cashier at the Security Bank and Trust of Owatonna, Minn., where he progressed to the position of assistant vice-president.

In 1962, he moved to Decorah, Iowa, to become vice-president, cashier and director of the Security Bank and Trust.

He moved to the Washington County Bank in Blair as vice-president in 1970 and retired from the bank in 1991 as executive vice-president.

A community leader, he was involved with the Elks, VFW, Masonic Lodge, Eagles, Chamber of Commerce and Ak-Sar-Ben. He was a recipient of the Dana 100 Award.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and golfing.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Lori Duden of Omaha; daughters and sons-in-law, JoLynn and Wayne Wells of Atlanta, Ga., Wendy Pendleton of Evanston, Ill., Lisa and Kull of Evanston, Ill., and Geary Kull; five grandchildren, James Pendelton, Jessica and Logan Kull, and Kallie and Trip Duden; sisters, Margie and John Carlson of Kennewick, Wash., and Dorothy Amendolar of Carrabelle, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Charles Duden.

Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Foundation.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair was in charge of arrangements.
