Services held for Verna Sexton Thursday

Services were held Thursday, February 2, at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington for Verna Virginia Sexton, 69, who died of pneumonia January 30, 1984, at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County.

The Rev. Bill Howell officiated. Graveside services were held at Prospect View Cemetery in Pierce, Nebraska, on Thursday.

Verna Virginia Sexton was born October 14, 1914, at McLean, Nebraska. She grew up on a farm in Pierce County, Nebraska, attended a country school and graduated from high school at Pierce, Nebraska. She also attended teachers colleges at Wayne and Chadron, Nebraska, and in Boston, Massachusetts.

She taught grade school most of her adult life, taking time out to work as a nurse. During World War II, she worked at the defense plant in Mead. Her teaching career took her to Pierce County, Bridgeport, Dalton and Wisner in Nebraska and Shelby, Iowa. She retired from teaching at Carter Lake, Iowa.

She also did ballroom dancing and earned a belt in Karate. She was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church in Omaha.

She is survived by a son, Richard P. Jones of Arlington. A brother, Earl Sexton, Arlington; and two sisters, Mrs. Elwin (Evelyn) Hall, Grand Island, Nebraska, and Mrs. Carl (Dorothy) Brokaw, Arlington, also survive her.

Mrs. Kay Voss was organist. Mrs. Elaine Cady was soloist.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
