D. Verdell Stork, 81

D. Verdell Stork, 81, of rural Arlington, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dugan Funeral Chapel in Fremont with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

D. Verdell Stork was born Dec. 19, 1932, to Albert and Laura (Hilgenkamp) Stork on the family farm.

He was baptized Jan. 1, 1933, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington. He attended Brinkman School and then St. Paul's. He was confirmed at St. Paul's in 1947.

He graduated from Fremont High School in 1951 and farmed until 1953 when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Hornet and completed his duty after being honorably discharged in 1955. He served on reserve duty in the Navy until Sept. 11, 1959.

Mr. Stork was a member of the American Legion Post 71 for 60 years, a lifetime member of VFW and served as an honor guard member and a bugler.

On April 20, 1958, he married Deloris Hilgenkamp at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and served in various office positions within the church.

Mr. Stork was a DFA board member and was presented with the Farm Family Award in 1969 for the 100th anniversary of the family farm.

He never officially retired from farming as it was one of his true passions. He also enjoyed bowling, softball and coaching.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deloris; son Michael (Chris) Stork; daughter Patricia Stork; and grandchildren: Brittany, Nathan and Nicole.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Laura; and two brothers, Eugene and Gerald.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington.
