FATHER OF ROY DUFFEY DIED IN COUNCIL BLUFFS

Harvey H. Duffey, father of Roy Duffey of Blair, died Saturday, October 4, at a Council Bluffs hospital. He was 87 years old. His death followed an extended illness.

The deceased was born at Council Bluffs November 16, 1887. He grew up in Council Bluffs, but as a young man moved to Gallatin, Missouri, where he lived from 1911 to 1922. He moved from Gallatin to Stanberry, Missouri, where he lived until 1941, after which he moved to Council Bluffs.

He was a retired machinist of the Wabash Railroad, a trade which he followed for 30 years. He owned and operated the Fifth Avenue Super Market in Council Blufffs for 19 years.

He was a member of the Council Bluffs Grocers’ Association and the Brotherhood of Railroad Machinists. He was also a member of the First Christian Church of Blair and the Loyal Order of the Moose.

He is survived by his wife Gertrude, the couple having celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last November 15.

Two sons survivied: Roy C. Duffey of Blair and D. Lee Duffey of Camdenton, Missouri. A brother, Roy J. Duffey, lives in St. Louis and another brother, George E. Duffey lives at Kirksville, Missouri. There are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Meyer Funeral Home in Council Bluffs. The Rev. Ray Phelps of the First Christian Church of Blair conducted the service. Burial was made in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs.
