Donald Arthur McKamy, 84

Donald Arthur McKamy, 84, of O’Neill, died Friday, May 21, 1999, at Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill.

Services were Wednesday, May 26, at First Christian Church in O’Neill.

Military rites were provided by the O’Neill American Legion.

Donald Arthur McKamy was born Dec. 9, 1914, to Francis Marion and Effie May (Foster) McKamy in Ewing.

He graduated from Clearwater High School and attended Wayne State College before joining the Army and serving during World War II.

On Oct. 15, 1946, he married Harriet Edna Bennett in O’Neill.

The couple had a daughter, Bruce Ann and a son, Jerome.

He owned and operated the O’Neill Grain and Feed Company for 28 years.

He was a member of the O’Neill American Legion Simonsen Post 93 for 51 years and a member of the Garfield Masonic Lodge for 50 years.

He was also a member of the O’Neill Civic Committee and past chairman and member of the Holt County Board of Supervisors for 10 years.

He belonged to the First Christian Church of O’Neill.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet; son, Jerome McKamy of O’Neill; daughter and son-in-law, Bruce Ann and Steven Sorensen of Blair; grandchildren, Amy Sorensen of Blair and Lance and Michelle Sorensen of Blair; great-grandson, Zachary Sorensen of Blair; and sister, Opal Lawhead of San Jose, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons; four sisters; and three brothers.
