Shirley McKercher Funeral Services Are Being Held Today

Long ill with heart disease, Shirley McKercher, 34, of 411 east Colfax street, died Monday evening at Blair hospital. A barber since he was a youth, Mr. McKercher had been employed at the Ross Deets barber shop until forced to give up his trade about a year ago because of ill health.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. George McKercher, he was born September 3, 1905, at Herman, and lived there until reaching manhood. He attended Herman high school, being graduated with the class of 1923.

He came to Blair 12 years ago as a barber. He and Miss Geraldine Metzler were married at Columbus in 1928.

Surviving Mr. McKercher are his widow, Geraldine; one son, Harold Lee, and a daughter, Phyllis; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George McKercher of Herman; three sisters, Miss Cleo McKercher and Mrs. Fred Snyder of Omaha and Miss Evelyn McKercher of Tekamah; and three brothers, Louis of Herman, Keith of Omaha and Emory of Norfolk.

Funeral services are being held this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Campbell mortuary, the Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen of First Methodist church in charge of the services. Interment will follow in Blair cemetery.

S. McKERCHER VICTIM OF HEART TROUBLE

Death came Monday evening to Shirley McKercher of East Colfax street, the result of an illness from heart trouble which had lasted for two years.

Deceased was born and reared in Herman, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George McKercher of that place. At his death he was thirty five years of age. He graduated from the Herman High school in the class of 1923 and in 1928 he was married to Miss Geraldine Metzler at Columbus, Nebraska.

By trade he was a barber, and he moved to Blair and for a long term of years practiced his trade in the Ross Deets shop. Here he worked until his health failed him two years ago.

The bereaved wife and two children, Harold Lee, ten years of age and Phyllis Mae, eight years of age are left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father.

Besides these, three sisters, Mrs. Fred Schneider and Cleo McKercher of Omaha and Miss Evelyn McKercher of Tekamah and three brothers, Keith of Omaha and Louis and Emory of Herman and the mother and father mourn their great loss.

Funeral rites are being held this afternoon from the Campbell mortuary at 2 o’clock with Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen in charge, and interment is being made in the Blair cemetery.
