Richard M. "Dick" Cartwright, 77, of Arlington, died Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation on Monday will be 4-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Fremont with military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post 854 and American Legion Post 20.

Richard M. "Dick" Cartwright was born Feb. 4, 1937, in Omaha, to Martin and Cecilia (Schimonitz) Cartwright. He grew up in Omaha and graduated from Holy Name High School in 1955 and then attended Creighton University in Omaha. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in California.

On Oct. 22, 1960, he married Helene M. Palik in Santa Rosa, Calif. He returned to Omaha and lived there until moving to Arlington in 1971.

He was employed at Western Electric in Omaha for 35 years, retiring in 1994. He then worked for Woodhouse in Blair for the last 12 years.

Mr. Cartwright was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, the Knights of Columbus Council 1497 and Christians Encounter Christ. He was also a member of the IBEW Union, and belonged to a camping club and enjoyed square dancing.

He is survived by his wife, Helene; sons: Rick Cartwright of Fremont and David and wife Marcy Cartwright of Arlington; daughters: Terri Cartwright of Windsor, Colo., Patty and husband Tim Mulhall of Fairfield, Conn., Karen and husband Dan Toebben of Blair and Janet and husband Tom Schumacher of Bennington; brothers: John Schenkelberg and Dick and wife Judy Schenkelberg, all of Omaha; sister Gretchen Moylan of Omaha; sister-in-law Barbara Schenkelberg of Omaha; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Bernard, Gilbert and Lambert Schenkelberg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Archbishop Bergan Schools or to the Knights of Columbus Council 1497.
