Dr. Tony McCormick, 32

Former Herman resident, Dr. Tony McCormick, 32, of Reno, Nev., died Thursday, December 27, 2007, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Reno, after a three-month battle with leukemia and related complications.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Herman Legion Hall.

Tony McCormick was born Oct. 9, 1975, in Blair, to Michael and Doris (Liska) McCormick.

He was a 1994 graduate of Tekamah-Herman High School. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1999 and magna cum laude from the Cleveland Chiropractic College in 2004.

On May 24, 2003, he married Merri Hilvitz in Kansas City and, in 2005, they and their daughter, Skylr Hilvitz McCormick, moved to Reno, where he opened his practice, The Radiant Body.

If you knew him, you knew he was a unique individual. As one of his employers said, “When Tony was made, they broke the mold.” He had a quick wit and was easy to like. He set high standards for himself. He loved the outdoors and was athletic and health-oriented. He was very compassionate and he wanted to help people heal. He was a great dad to his 9-year-old daughter and they had many wonderful adventures in Reno and Tahoe.

He enjoyed his large family (he was the third of seven siblings) and he leaves a large extended family and many, many friends and associates who loved him very much and are mourning this huge loss in their lives.

He is survived by his wife, Merri, and daughter, Skylr, both of Reno; parents: Mike and Doris McCormick of Herman; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lee and Marcie of Omaha, Loren and Melissa of Verdigre, Tracy and Malibu of Lincoln, Tyler and Luke, both of Herman; sister: Leslie, of Omaha; nieces, nephews; grandmothers: Kathryn Sundell of Niobrara and Elsie McCormick of Verdigre.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfathers, Lawrence Lisa and Lonnie McCormick, and is with them again in God’s presence.

Pelan Funeral Services Tekamah was in charge of arrangements.
