Louis J. Shald, 72

Louis J. Shald, 72, of Blair, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at his home.

Services were 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church.

Burial was at 4 p.m. at St. Boniface Cemetery in Stuart.

Pallbearers were Jesse Doll, Joey Shald, Joshua Shald, Steve Shald, Jeff Shald and Dave Schneider.

Louis J. Shald was born March 2, 1926, to John and Sophia (Weber) Shald in Stuart.

After returning from active duty in the Army/Air Force during World War II, he married Myrna Blake on June 3, 1948, in Long Pine.

The couple farmed near Stuart until 1965, when the family moved to Blair.

He then worked in the Gambles hardware business in Blair and in Papillion where he was the general manager.

He was later employed by the postal service until his retirement in 1990.

An active member of St. Francis Catholic Church, he also participated in the American Legion, Spinning Wheels Square Dance Club, and the Saturday Night Pitch Club.

In retirement, he enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing and gardening, along with helping family and friends with “handyman” projects.

He is survived by his wife, Myrna; daughter and son-in-law, Carole Sue and Mike Doll of Hornick, Iowa; three sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Cathy Shald of Coffeyville, Kan., Doug and Carolyn Shald of Yuma, Ariz., and Brian and Sherrie Shald of Blair; six grandsons, Jesse, Joey, Joshua, Nicholas, Tim and Brett; three granddaughters, Coutney, Laura and Amy and her husband, Paul Gladwin; one great-grandson, Chance; three brothers and their wives, Paul and Shirley Shald of Omaha and Dick and Anita Shald of Granada Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Lillian Olberding and Mary Ann and her husband, Gene Hoffman, all of Stuart; and many relatives.

He was preceded in death by one son, David; his parents; and three brothers, George, Gilbert and Ivo.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Borgia Building Fund.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
