Jessie Shamburg, 89

Services for Jessie Shamburg, age 89 of Herman, who died October 9, 1992 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair were Monday, October 12 at the Methodist Church in Herman. Burial was held in the Herman Cemetery.

Jessie Shamburg was born August 18, 1903 on a farm northwest of Herman to John and Minnie (Wilson) Skinner. She graduated from Herman High School in 1922. She also graduated from the Bishop Clarkson School of Nursing.

While she was growing up she enjoyed training and working with Clydesdale horses with her father. After his death in 1918 she worked with her brother training the horses.

After her schooling she did private nursing in the Omaha area and operated the Tekamah Hospital.

On August 18, 1935 she married Waldo Shamburg at the Methodist Parsonage in Tekamah. They lived in several communities due to Waldo’s construction job. In 1943, they purchased a farm west of Herman where they still resided at the time of her death.

She was a Charter Member of the Herman American Legion Auxiliary and the Burt County South Sunshine Extension Club. She was a Gold Star sister and a member of the Herman Federated Churches and the United Methodist women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, John, Tom, Jim and one sister Mary Loftis.

She is survived by her husband, Waldo; son, John Shamburg; son and daughter-in-law, William and Alice Shamburg; three grandchildren, Daniel, Sara and Ray Shamburg, all of Herman; two brothers, William Skinner of Ramona, California and Robert Skinner of Herman and two sisters, Mabel Hovendick of Beatrice, Nebraska and Elizabeth Lang of Uehling, Nebraska.

Memorials may be directed to the Herman Rescue Squad or Herman Methodist Church Mission Fund.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
