H. Chapman Passes Away At Arlington

The people of Arlington were greatly shocked Sunday morning upon hearing of the sudden death of H. Chapman. Five years ago Mr. Chapman had a severe sickness, which culminated in an operation. From that time, he never fully regained his health, although being able to be up and around most of the time. He arose and dressed, remarking to his wife that he did not feel as well as usual. Acting upon the suggestion of his wife he decided to lie down upon the couch for a short time. Scarcely had he become comfortable on the couch until he passed away.

Mr. Chapman was 85 years old in October. He was born in Ohio in 1832, coming to Nebraska when a young man. He was one of the County Commissioners of Douglas County in1873 and started a store in Arlington on the corner where Chris Legband has a bakery. After a few years he went into the brick building where he remained until he retired from active business life.

Mr. Chapman leaves to mourn his departure a wife and one son, J. C. Chapman, who resides on a farm about five miles east of Arlington.
