Robert A. Frye, 89

Robert A. Frye, 89, of Fremont, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at First Baptist Church in Fremont. Interment will be at Fremont's Memorial Cemetery.

Robert A. Frye was born March 6, 1921, in Cheyenne Wells, Colo., to Charles and Zella Frye.

In December 1925, he rode in a box car with two uncles, two horses, two cows and personal belongings and moved to a farm outside of Elk City. He attended school until 1934, when he went to work during the Great Depression.

On Oct. 22, 1941, he married Patricia Pearce. She died in October 1953. On March 27, 1954, he married Lillian Loomis.

Mr. Frye was a farmer until 1958. He then drove a truck for Case Transfer, and was a foreman for Ned Tyson Cattle Company for eight years. He retired in 1986 after 20 years at the Blair Manufacturing Company.

He was a member of the Herman town board for many years, and served as the mayor of Herman for four years.

In 1988, he joined the Fremont Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lillian; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Carolynn Frye of Enid, Okla., and Dave and Sarah Frye of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Donald Landholm of Cleveland, Tenn.; sons-in-law, Mike Wachdorf of Omaha and Jerry Benne of Albion; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Sharon Wachdorf and Barbara Benne; and grandsons, Mark Frye and Michael Swanson.

Dugan Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
