William H. Donner was born in Mecklenburg, Germany on the 28th day of June, 1861, and immigrated to this country with his loving parents when only two years old and settled at Dunkirk, N. Y. A few years later this family moved farther west and lived at Magnolia, Iowa, where the deceased was instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran church, of which he has always been a true and faithful member. In that locality he grew to manhood and in 1884 was united in marriage to Miss Ida Sas. This short but happy union was blessed with two children, a girl and a boy, the latter dying in infancy. Early in 1894 his wife was failing in health and after a short illness was taken from this world. A year later, the deceased and daughter took up their residence in Blair, Nebraska. In our midst he spent practically the rest of his life and found an occupation at Gus Scheffler’s harness shop. In 1912 he entered a second marriage with Mrs. Effie Service, who died in April of last year. Since the beginning of this year the departed has not been well. He was taken home from his work as a sick man in February and it was learned that he was suffering with leakage of the heart. Last spring he made a trip for his health but it seemed no benefit was obtained. Growing weaker he made his last trip to a sister and brother at Lincoln, Nebraska, a few weeks back. For the last week his friends here were expecting to hear of his passing away, which occurred last Friday morning at 7:20 at the Moines, Iowa, a sister, Mrs. Henry W. Meyer. A short funeral service took place at the Meyer home at Lincoln Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. H. Eggold of Trinity Lutheran church and the corpse brought to our city and at once taken to the Campbell’s undertaking parlor, where they remained until 1:45 Sunday afternoon. At this time they were then taken to Trinity Lutheran church on West Lincoln street for the funeral services, headed by the pastor and followed by the mourners and near friends. Thereafter his body was taken to the city cemetery for burial in the John Sas lot. He attained an age of 62 years, 4 months and 11 days; and is survived by his daughter, Miss Eva Donner, Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Henry Meyer, a brother, Henry, at Lincoln, Nebr.; two stepsons, Wm. Wilds, of Great Falls, Montana, and Carroll Service, of Sioux Falls, S. D., who was here for the funeral and a goodly number of friends at Blair.
