GIFFORD L. DIXON DIED AT BLAIR HOSPITAL SUNDAY

Gifford L. Dixon, lifetime resident of Blair, died last Saturday, September 10th at the Blair Hospital. He was 81 years of age.

The deceased was born July 14, 1896 in Blair. He grew here, was a graduate of the Blair school system, and for many years was in the insurance and real estate business here.

Except for a brief period when he had a summer home in Minnesota, he spent all of his time in Blair. For many years, Gifford and Mrs. Dixon, who preceded him in death, lived on Fontanelle Boulevard in West Blair.

The deceased was one of the early-day realtors of the community. His offices were located on the second floor of the Home Theatre building and he was an oft-seen and familiar individual of Blair’s business world.

He possessed an exceptionally fine tenor voice and had the knack of selecting songs folks like to hear sung and as a result he was in constant demand for entertainments, weddings and funerals. Long after his retirement and after moving to the Crowell Home following Mrs. Dixon’s death, he continued his interest in music. He led the Crowell Home guests in songfest sessions regularly.

He is survived by two daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. Don (Jacqueline) Schettler of Blair and Mrs. Diane Cedarleaf of White Bear, Minnesota. The sons are Michael Dixon of Orange, California and Burke Dixon of Blair. A son, Gifford Dixon, Jr. died December 1964.

There are three sisters surviving. They are Mildred Holmes of Canada; Iris Kinyon of Palm Desert, California and Jennie Kreider of South Laguna Beach, California.

Private funeral services were held at the Campbell Mortuary, Tuesday morning, September 13th with the Rev. Robert Bee in charge of the services. Burial was carried out in the Blair Cemetery by the Campbell Mortuary.
