W. E. DIXON IS DEAD

Word was received last evening by Asa Dixon, Sr., that his brother, W. E. Dixon, a former well-known resident of this county had just passed away at his home in a suburb of Lincoln . He is the father of J. A. Dixon, republican candidate for county assessor. Deceased had been critically ill for some time, unconscious for the last 17 days of his illness. The body will be brought to Blair, at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, for burial by the side of his three children and his father and mother.

W.E. DIXON, PIONEER, DIES AT UNIVERSITY PLACE

William E. Dixon died at his home in University place September 7, and was buried Saturday afternoon in the Blair cemetery. The funeral was attended by a large number of friends and relatives of the family.

Mr. Dixon had laid in an unconscious condition for two weeks previous to his death. He was born in Peoria, Ill. Feb. 22, 1845, and moved to Iowa with his parents. Enlisting in Co. G, 17th Iowa Infantry at the age of 17, he served through four years of civil strife. He was captured at Tilton, Ga., and was a prisoner in Andersonville for six months.

Mr. Dixon was united in marriage to Miss Sarah E. Young at Prairie City, Iowa, October 24, 1871, and immediately moved to a homestead northwest of Blair. Later he was active in the business life of Pender and Oxford, Neb., where he resided for many years. The closing years of his life were spent at University Place.

He leaves a widow, Mrs. Sarah E. Dixon, two sons, J.A. Dixon of Arlington, and C.J. Dixon of University Place; three daughters, Mrs. Ada Browning, of Ogden, Utah; Mrs. C.E. Campbell, of Dubuque, Iowa, and Mrs. Walter Jones, of Grand Island, Nebr. Five brothers also survive the deceased, Asa Dixon, Sr. and Earl of Blair; George of Perry, Okla., W.W. Dixon of Bethany, Nebr., and S.S. Dixon, of Arlington.
