JAMES CHASE DIES AT VETS HOSPITAL

James L. Chase, age 58, of Fort Calhoun died June 22, 1980 at Veteran’s Hospital in Omaha.

He entered the Navy February 7, 1941 and served as an Aviation Machinist mate in the Asiatic Pacific and European-African Middle East, being based at Port Leyote in North Africa. After WWII he was based at Alemeda, California and Barbers Point T.H. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in San Francisco on November 11, 1947, then was an inactive reserve until 1955.

He was born on a farm south of Fort Calhoun and lived most of his life in this community.

Surviving him are one sister, Barbara Burmeister, and two brothers, John and Bill of Omaha. By his request his remains were donated to science. A memorial service was held Wednesday evening, June 25, at the Sievers-Sprick Mortuary in Fort Calhoun, the Rev. James Hendrickson officiating.
