FORMER BLAIR BOY MEETS DEATH-Sad Accident Shocks The Entire City-Family Were Well And Favorably Known-VICTIN YOUNG MAN OF ABILITY

On last Thursday the sad news of an accident which had befallen William Cheely, Jr., of Sioux City, was made known to Blair friends and when later news arrived on Friday morning of his death, it cast a gloom over all who knew William and the family who lived here for so many years.

The story as reported to us is that William had been working for a firm there and as business was slack had been laid off for a few weeks and in the meantime he had found a job with the Mystic Mills as helper on one of the trucks, taking the place of the regular helper who was on a vacation.

He had worked but two or three days when the truck with driver, Garfield Clayton and William were struck by an Illinois passenger train causing the instant death of Mr. Clayton and the serious injuries from which William died later in a local hospital. The truck was a complete wreck.

William was born in Blair a little over eighteen years ago and spent his childhood and early youth in this city. His parents moved to Sioux City a few years ago and he attended school there, working during his vacation. He has made friends where ever he went and his Blair friends are many. On July 4th William and his father spent the day in the old home town visiting among friends.

Besides his grief stricken parents he leaves a sister, Miss Sibyl, who is a few years older.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, July 20, at three o’clock and were attended by a large number of Blair friends testifying to the esteem and friendship which they held for the Cheely family who have always been welcome visitors to Blair since their removal to Sioux City.

Burial was made in a Sioux City Cemetery on Monday, the state law not permitting burial on Sunday.

Among those Blair friends who drove up to express their sympathy and attend the services, the following names were reported, Ed Wolff and family, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Allen, Mrs. Watson Tyson, Mrs. Karl Petersen, Claire Warrick, Ed Grimm, P. M. Tyson, John McKay, John Newell, C. Krause, Fred Krogh, Clark Allen, J. E. Campbell, Frank Stewart, Mrs. and Mrs. Chris Schmidt, Beulah Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cheely and Ruth, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Cooke, M. R. Lippincott and family, besides a number of former Blair people from Fremont, Omaha, Sioux City and Lincoln.

The Enterprise joins all old friends and neighbors in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
