Arlene A. Cherryholmes, 66, died Sunday, June 29, 2003 at her residence in Davenport, Iowa, following a brief and very courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services were Thursday, July 3, in the All Faith Chapel at the Halligan-McCabe-Devries Funeral Home. Interment was at the Crawfordsville Cemetery, Crawfordsville, Iowa.

Arlene Alice York was born Nov. 1, 1936, in Washington, Iowa, to Dale and Dorothy (Shafer) York. She married Danny C. Cherryholmes on Nov. 7, 1958, at the Christian Tabernacle Church, Washington, Iowa. She graduated from Washington High School in 1954.

In earlier years, she enjoyed roller-skating, and that is where she met her husband. She was a talented seamstress, and enjoyed sewing and plastic canvas stitching.

Mrs. Cherryholmes had been an avid bowler and bowled for over 37 years. She was a member of the Davenport/Bettendorf Bowling Association for 15 years.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter # 178; International Order of Rainbow for Girls, and was elected to the Grand Cross of Color. She also held offices at the local and state levels, including, Assistant Mother Advisor, Rainbow Board Member, Leadership Director and State Project Chairman. She had also been a member of Esther Circle through Grace Untied Methodist Church. As a younger woman she taught Sunday School and sang for various occasions at the Christian Tabernacle Church in Washington.

She is survived by her husband, Danny; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Kirk Conyers, Blair, and Kari and Dean Hoag, Sully, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Sue Cherryholmes, Davenport and eight grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Sharon York, Davenport; Curt and Shirley York all of Washington, Iowa.
