Alexander McManigal Dies Sunday of Influenza

Alexander McManigal died Sunday evening at his home on east Nebraska street of influenza, having been ill for some time.

Deceased was born in Sciota county, Ohio, October 6, 1855, and was 67 years of age. He came with his parents, James and Dulcina McManigal, from Ohio to Nebraska in 1864, making the trip to Grennelle, Iowa, by train, and from there to Blair in a covered wagon having bought the outfit at Grennelle. He has since made this city his home.

He was married September 1, 1883, to Louise Jenks, who died of influenza October 16, 1918. Mr. McManigal united with the Baptist church when he was eighteen years old, and has since been a member of that organization. He is survived by one son, Ben McManigal, of Ft. Lupton, Colo.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Arthur D. Smalley officiating, and burial was made in the Blair cemetery.

Alexander E. McManigal, more commonly called “Ell,” died very suddenly Sunday evening at about 8 o’clock. He hadn’t been well since Thanksgiving time, and had the prevailing “flu” but was getting over it. He had eaten his dinner and supper but a stroke at 8 o’clock brought the end in a very few minutes. The funeral was held at the Baptist church at 2 o’clock this afternoon, Rev. Arthur D. Smalley officiating. Henry Christensen, J. I. Unruh, Chas. Gilliam, Austin Stowe, F. S. Bigelow and Wm. Caldwell served as pallbearers. Deceased was born in Scioto county, Ohio October 6th 1855, and was, therefore past 67 years of age. He came west with his parents to Grinnell, Ia., by train, coming the rest of the way by covered wagon in 1864. He was married to Louise Jenks Sept. 1st, 1883. He is survived by one son, Benjamin, now of Ft. Lupton, Colo. Who was called here by the serious illness of his father and was also present for the funeral services. His wife died of influenza October 16th, 1918. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. John Holeton, of this city, the late Mrs. Asa Dixon, sr., being a sister. There are three brothers living, Arch, of Decatur, who was here for the funeral, “B”, of Whitten, S.D., and Chas. of Wisconsin. His uncle, Dan McManigal, and daughter of Wayne, Neb. came yesterday for the funeral.

A.E. McManigal

A. E. McManigal was born in Scioto County, Ohio, October 6, 1855. The family moved to this county in 1864 and settled on homestead.

He was married September 1, 1893, to Louise Jenks of Indiana, and they made Blair their home. The wife died October 16, 1918.

The deceased was associated with the early history of this county and watched its growth from the Pioneer times until now. He was a free hearted, good, sincere man who had many friends who held him in the highest esteem.

He took sick last November with a bad cold from which he never recovered, and on last Sunday, February 18 at 8:40, he passed away.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Reverend Smalley officiating and interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.

He is survived by one son, B. F. McManigal, of Ft. Lupton, Colorado, who came to care for him before he died and remained until after the funeral.
