Paul Hilton Stedman, 93, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at The Ambassador of Lincoln.

A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Palmyra Presbyterian Church, 615 Apple St., Palmyra. A private interment will be in Palmyra Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Friday with family at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A St., Lincoln.

Paul “Hilton” Stedman was born Aug. 4, 1920, to Sherman S. and Lydia A. (Motherhead) Stedman on a farm near Unadilla.

The family purchased and moved to their farm in 1932 in the Palmyra-Bennet area. He graduated from Bennet High School in 1938 and briefly attended the University of Nebraska Ag College in Lincoln.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1942-1946, mainly in China, Burma and the India theatre of operations. When he returned home, he continued his love of farming.

He was married to Mary Jo Sandsted on Sept. 14, 1958. He enjoyed raising hogs and was very proud of the awards his three daughters won in 4-H.

He was a member of the Palmyra Presbyterian Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, elder and trustee. He served as president of the Palmyra-Bennett school board; chairman of the Upper Little Nemaha Watershed board of directors; Capital Pork Producers board member, receiving the Nebraska Pork Chop Award in 1986; a director of the Palmyra Farmer’s Cooperative; Otoe County Farm Bureau president and was a VFW member.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Jo, of Lincoln; daughters: Ann (Roger) Overleese of Axtell, Paula (John) Ellis of Blair and Shari (Terry) Gray of Lincoln; grandchildren: Chelsea (Toby) Johnson, Ryan (Amanda) Overleese, Jessi and Abby Ellis and Thomas and Jenna Gray; great-granddaughter Londyn Johnson; brother Wyman Stedman; nephew Steve (Cindy) Stedman; three great-nephews; four great-great-nephews and a great-great niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law Mildred Sandsted; father-in-law Raymond Sandsted; sister-in-law Peggy Stedman; and brother-in-law William Sandsted.
