Doris Anne Quist, 55

Doris Anne “Dodie” Quist of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, died Nov. 16th, 1988 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Mrs. Quist had been under treatment for several months for kidney disease.

Doris was the wife of Arvin S. Quist, whom she married in 1957. Quist is employed as the classification officer for Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Inc. at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant.

In addition to her husband, Arvin, she is survived by three sons, Mark G. Quist, a University of Tennessee freshman; Erik S. Quist and his wife, Cathy, both Knoxville attorneys and residents of Oak Ridge and their daughter, Kristen and Brian C. Quist, a Knoxville attorney and his wife, Molly, a graduate student at the University of Tennessee. She is also survived by her parents, Earl H. and Orlena Growcock of Fremont, Ne.; a sister, Edith Lamb of Livermore, California; mother-in-law, Clara Quist of Blair, Ne,; five nephews and four nieces.

Doris Anne Quist was born Nov. 9, 1933, in Fremont, Nebraska and graduated from Fremont High School. She attended Hastings College and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a degree and Arts and English in 1955 and graduated from UNL in 1961 with a Master of Arts Degree. She was very active in theatre in both locations.

She taught high school in McCook and in Lincoln and Junior College in Nebraska and Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa., before going to Oak Ridge to live in 1961.

Throughout her residence in Oak Ridge, Mrs. Quist was a strong supporter of the community’s art organizations. She appeared in Community Playhouse productions as well as directing and producing many shows for the Playhouse and the Pellissippi Players. She directed musicals for the Webb School of Knoxville and also directed several shows for area dinner theaters.

Services were held on Nov. 19th at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church, Chapel on the Hill, Rev R. Boyd Carter officiating.
