J.W. KELLEY, ILL SINCE ’41, DIES

J.W. Kelley, 74-year-old professional painter and resident of Blair since 1923, died Sunday evening in the Omaha hospital where he had been a patient the past two weeks. An invalid for the past two and one-half years, Mr. Kelley had been in poor health since suffering a severe stroke and other complications in 1941.

Born Oct. 16, 1869, in Wright county, Mo., John William Kelley was the son of Milton and Thursa Kelley. He came to Nebraska as a young man and farmed for a number of years near Tekamah. On March 5, 1901, he was married to Carrey Mabel Sisson. Six children, all of whom are still living, were born to the Kelleys.

Until he was taken ill, Mr. Kelley was a member of the Baptist board of trustees and also served as superintendent of the Arizona Sunday school which met in the Arizona church east of Tekamah.

Funeral rites were conducted at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at Campbell’s Mortuary, with the Rev. D.D. Kennedy of the Baptist church officiating. Burial was in the Blair cemetery.

Besides the widow, Mr. Kelley leaves six children; Rea Mae Bowles of North Kansas City, Mo.; Sgt. William E. Kelley of March Field, Calif.; Mrs. Tom Earwood of Blair; John Paul Kelley of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Abraham Warrick of Arlington; and Pvt. Walter Kelley of March Field, Calif.; also a brother, Charles G. Kelley of Los Angeles; and a sister, Edith Kelley of Portland, Ore, and four grandchildren.

JOHN W. KELLEY DIED NOV. 14TH

John William Kelley, son of Milton and Thursa Kelley, was born October 16, 1869 in Wright County, Missouri, and passed away Sunday evening, November 14, 1943 at a hospital in Omaha. Mr. Kelley came to Nebraska in young manhood, and farmed for a number of years near Tekamah, Nebraska.

On March 5, 1901 he was united in marriage to Carrey Mabel Sisson, and to this union six children were born, three boys and three girls. In 1923 he moved his family to Blair, and followed the painting profession up until about two and one half years ago when he suffered a severe stroke and other complications, since which time he was confined to his home. Two weeks ago he was taken ill and rushed to the hospital where he passed away. He was a member of the First Baptist church and was a member of the Board of Trustees until his illness. He also was Sunday School superintendent of a Sunday School that met in the Arizona church east of Tekamah.

Mr. Kelley leaves to mourn his passing his widow and six children: Rea Mae Bowles of North Kansas City, Missouri; Sgt. William E. Kelley of March Field, California; Eva La Dean Harwood of Blair; John Paul Kelley of Kansas City, Missouri; Marjorie Marie Warrick of Arlington, Nebraska; Pvt. Walter Kelley of March Field, California; one brother, Charles G. Kelley of Los Angeles, California; and one sister, Edith Kelley of Portland, Oregon. Also four grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held last Tuesday from the Campbell Mortuary with Rev. D. D. Kennedy officiating.
