J. M. COMPTON DEATH VICTIM EARLY THURSDAY

WELL-KNOWN FARMER HAD BEEN ILL ABOUT A WEEK

John M. Compton, well known farmer residing in the Blair vicinity all of his life, passed away early Thursday morning at his home on east Washington Street of a heart attack. He had been ill with a cold for about a week.

The deceased was a life-long resident of Washington County, having been born at Blair January 6, 1879 the son of John and Nancy Compton. He was 75 years of age at his death.

He grew to manhood on a farm near Blair and in 1899 was married to Miss Nora Warrick.

The couple farmed for many years four miles north of Blair adjacent to Highway 73 and they built a farmstead which was one of the better places between Blair and Herman. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive their father’s passing. The surviving children are Gilfred and Gifford, who are twin sons, now located at Boise, Idaho, and a daughter, Betty, now Mrs. Roland Wilkins. A daughter, Mrs. Ruth Thompson, died a number of years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Compton retired from the farm a number of years ago and Mrs. Compton passed away in 1948.

Later, Mr. Compton was married to Mrs. Elsie Jensen who survives his passing.

In addition to his wife and three children, he also survived by three sisters: Mrs. Mary McManigal, of Blair, Mrs. Ben Peck, of Blair and Mrs. Fannie Lund, of Casper, Wyoming.

Mr. Compton was a long time member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Melvon Ireland conducting the services. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery with fellow lodge members conducting graveside rites.

The Bendorf Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Clarence Simpson, T. A. Bohs, Clark Lippincott, George Nelson, Roy Rosenbaum and Ted Pedersen.

John Compton Dies at 75

WELL-KNOWN BLAIRITE DIED SUDDENLY AT HOME; METHODIST RITES

A heart attack caused the sudden death last Thursday morning of John Compton, well-known Blairite. Mr. Compton, 75, a former farmer, died at his home, 226 East Washington St.

The body was taken to the Bendorf Funeral Home. Services were held at 2:30 pm. Saturday at First Methodist Church, with the Rev. Melvon Ireland officiating. Interment followed in the Blair cemetery.

John Madison Compton, son of John Allen Compton and Nancy Bryce Compton, was born in Washington County Jan. 6, 1879, and spent his entire life here. He and Nora Warrick were married Febr. 22, 1899, and farmed for many years north of Blair. Mrs. Compton died in 1948, and in 1949 he was married to Elsie Jensen of Blue Rapids, Kan.

Mr. Compton was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge.

Surviving him are his wife, Elsie; two sons, Gifford and Gilford Compton of Boise, Ida.; and one daughter, Mrs. Roland Wilkins (Betty) of Blair. Another daughter, Mrs. Leslie Thompson (Ruth) preceded her parents in death.

Also surviving Mr. Compton are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary McManigal and Mrs. Ben Peck, both of Blair, and Mrs. Fanny Lund of Casper, Wyo.
