Former State Senator

Clifton N. Robinson, 82, of Blair, died Saturday, May 7, 2011, in Blair. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Blair, with interment in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Clifton Newkirk "Bud" Robinson Jr. was born Sept. 13, 1928, in Blair to Clifton and Stella (Gustin) Robinson. He graduated from Blair High School and Dana College, earned a master's degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and received his Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. While attending Dana College, he played football, basketball and baseball and was inducted into the Dana College Athletic Hall of Fame.

He was inducted into the military in 1950 and served with the 45th infantry in Korea, and was discharged in 1952.

On Sept. 6, 1953, he married Janice Vaage at Trinity Lutheran Church at Newman Grove.

Mr. Robinson was a teacher and superintendent of school at Kennard for six years, and was teacher and administrator at Westside Community School in Omaha.

He served two terms as a state senator and was elected to head the military and veterans affairs committee. He served six years on the Metropolitan Technical Community College Board, and Blair YMCA Board. For numerous years he ran the Home Theatre in Blair and was a partner in the Husker Bowling Alley.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Steve Stapp, Omaha; sons, Thomas of Blair, David of California, and Stephen of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard; and sisters, Lila Macredes and Libby Pfeiffer.
