Funeral services were held November 9 at the Legion Hall in Herman for Cora E. Hovendick, 92. She died November 6, 1985 in Oakland.

She was born Cora Elizabeth Lyons on April 15, 1893, in Fairfield, Illinois. She came to Nebraska, with her parents and sister, Letitia, in a covered wagon in August, 1893.

She attended New England country school and Herman High School. She attended Midland Normal School and then taught rural schools In Washington County for six years. She joined the Herman Methodist Church when in her teens and in later years transferred her membership to the Alder Grove Methodist Church.

On October 25, 1916 she married Fred Hovendick and they lived on a farm west of Herman until April, 1920 when they moved to a farm in eastern Colorado. They returned to Nebraska in 1928 and lived west of Herman until the death of her husband in September 1982. At the time of her death, she was residing at Oakland Heights Home.

She is survived by her five children: Lura Ruwe of Lincoln, Roland of Herman, Robert of Lincoln, Missouri, Margaret Rennerfeldt of Oakland, and Doris Anderson of Lyons; 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. A sister, Letitia preceded her in death.

The Rev. Patricia Vanderpol officiated. Pallbearers were Merlin Magill, Raymond Magill, Jr., Eugene Husk, Larry Goldsberry, Marion McCluskey and Orville Magill. Burial was in the Herman Cemetery.
