Mrs. Henry Hovendick, resident of Washington County for nearly half a century, died at her home in Blair on Thursday morning, June 11. She had been in poor health for nearly three years, and during the last eight weeks she was bedfast.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Herman where Mrs. Hovendick had resided for more than forty years. Rev. T. A. Lindenmeyer, former Blair Christian Church pastor, was in charge of services at the Herman Baptist Church, followed by burial in the Herman Cemetery.

As Eva A. Schellenger, Mrs. Hovendick was born at Jackson, Ohio, March 18, 1874. She united with the Christian Church in Jackson when 14 years old, continuing in that faith throughout her life. In 1891 she came to Herman and made her home with her sister, Mrs. Herman Hovendick, until her marriage.

She was united in marriage to Henry Hovendick of Herman on October 25, 1893, the ceremony taking place at the Methodist parsonage at Vacoma with Rev. Deurbe reading the marriage lines. To their union were born six children, all of whom, with the husband, survive. They are Fred of Herman, Louie of Tekamah, Ivan of Blair, Mrs. John Jackson and Mrs. Raymond Magill, of Herman, and Mrs. Floyd Magill of Omaha. Also left to mourn the loss are twenty grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Herman Hovendick of Herman, and a brother, Guy Schellenger of Jackson, Ohio.

For nearly forty years of their married life, Mr. and Mrs. Hovendick resided on a farm near Herman. About seven years ago they moved to Blair, where they have since made their home.
