Lester Hovendick To Be Buried At Herman

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 30, at 1:30 p.m. at the Craig, Nebraska, for Lester F. Hovendick, 78, who died at the Blair Memorial Community Hospital on September 27, 1981.

A special visitation will be held at the church beginning at 11:30 a.m. It will continue until service time.

Burial will be in the Herman Cemetery.

Lester F. Hovendick was born May 4, 1903, n Herman to Charles and Elorah Fletcher Hovendick. He was a farmer. He and his wife, Mabel, were living at 1317 Wilbur Street in Blair at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel, Blair; and three sons, Donald Hovendick, Omaha; Charles Hovendick, Longmont, Colorado; and Richard Hovendick, Beatrice. Three brothers, Chester Hovendick, Blair; Vernon Hovendick, Herman; and Howard Hovendick, Tekamah; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, also survive him.

Hamel and Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah is in charge of arrangements for the services.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 30, at the Craig United Methodist Church for Lester Hovendick, 78, who died at Blair Memorial Community Hospital on September 27, 1981.

Rev. Melva Tranmer conducted the services. Burial was in the Herman Cemetery.

Lester Freeman Hovendick was born May 4, 1903, to Charles and Elorah Fletcher Hovendick in the Vacoma Community southwest of Herman. The family later lived in the New England area before moving to a farm south of the Crawford School in Burt County.

He and Mabel Skinner were married January 26, 1926, and lived on a farm near Herman moving to the Craig vicinity in 1934 where they lived until moving to Blair in 1980. They were living in Blair at the time of his death. He was an active member of the Alder Grove and Craig United Methodist Churches for over 45 years. He served in many capacities on the church board and was a lay leader.

He served as branch manager of the Production Credit Association Office in Tekamah from 1943-1950. He had been active in numerous community activities including pas president of the Burt County Farm Bureau, past chairman of the Burt County Soil Conservation District Board and past chairman of the Burt County Co-Op Oil Company Board.

He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, beginning in Landmark Lodge No. 222, A.F. & A.M. of Craig. He was also a member of the Royal Arch Masons of Tekamah.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

He is survived by his wife Mabel; and three sons, Donald Hovendick of Omaha; Charles Hovendick of Longmont, Colorado; and Richard Hovendick of Beatrice; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Chester Hovendick of Blair, Vernon Hovendick of Herman, and Howard Hovendick, of Tekamah, also survive him.
