Services Held For Mary Ellen Fletcher Monday

Funeral services were held Monday, May 17, at Herman Baptist Church for Mary Ellen “Birdie” Fletcher, 92, who died at Crowell Home May 15, 1982.

Rev. Barbara Schenkel conducted the services. Burial was in the Herman Cemetery.

Mary Ellen Fletcher, better known as “Birdie”, was born June 24, 1889, at Fletcher, Nebraska, on the farm that her grandfather homesteaded in 1862. She was the daughter of Freeman and Mary Cram Fletcher.

She was a member of the Herman Baptist Church, a charter member of the Herman Chapter No 216 Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron in 1953. She moved to Herman from the farm in 1944 and in 1976, she became a resident of Crowell Home.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Paul (Marjorie) Christiansen of Herman, and other nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers were nephews Freeman Loftis, Leonard Loftis, Floyd Loftis, Vernon Hovendick, Howard Hovendick and Chester Hovendick.

Gracie Husk was organist. Shirley A. Schmidt was vocalist.

Campbell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
